If one forward policy/rule is defined based on any of the features like SLA link, source/dest IP, or URL, how will the appliance decide on the forwarding policy?

Solution

SD-WAN forwarding policy is evaluated based on the activation of load balancing at flow level or packet level.

If it is at flow level, then it will be evaluated based on the first packet of a flow. It will remain unchanged as long as the SLAs are being met. However, upon SLA violation, it will be subjected to re-evaluation. 

If the load balancing is per packet, then the policy evaluation is per packet.

Which packets are identified by the appliance? Packets received at LAN or packets transmitted through WAN?

Appliance identifies packets on ingress interface.

Versa supports more than 2600 applications and protocols. What is the identification code for supported application and protocols?

Solution

Versa application identification is based on these:

• L3/L4 protocol parameters
• L7 protocol content like, Host name, URI, SNI, Common name etc.
• Signature base application detection

Versa uses SNI and common name fields to identifiy application for encrypted traffic.
